Vietnamese wedding traditions: Lễ Ăn Hỏi and Lễ Cưới

Vietnamese weddings are rich in cultural traditions that have been passed down for generations. The wedding process typically involves two main ceremonies: Le An Hoi (the engagement ceremony) and Le Cuoi (the wedding ceremony).

During Le An Hoi, the groom's family visits the bride's family with gifts presented on red trays covered with red cloth. These gifts traditionally include betel leaves and areca nuts, fruits, cakes, tea, wine, and roasted pig. The number of trays is always odd, as odd numbers are considered lucky in Vietnamese culture.

The Le Cuoi ceremony is the main wedding event. The bride traditionally wears a red or pink Ao Dai, symbolizing luck and happiness. The ceremony includes tea service to honor both families' ancestors, incense offerings at the family altar, and blessings from the elders.

Modern Vietnamese weddings beautifully blend these traditional elements with contemporary celebrations, creating unforgettable experiences that honor the past while embracing the future.
